Every day, millions of women and children in developing countries walk miles to retrieve water for their family's daily needs. In most cases, even after walking for hours and hours, the water they have to drink is contaminated causing disease and even death.
The Church of the Good Samaritan Missions grants has provided general financial support for Water Mission, and, in addition, the Walk for Water has raised funds for seven Safe Water projects. Two of these projects, in the villages of Sinoko and Bumala, Kenya, demonstrate tremendous success. These water systems are a great blessing to the communities; preventing disease and demonstrating excellent community development in that they are operating at capacity and generating resources for continued sustainability. Demand for safe water exceeds the projected capacity of the systems and our plan is to expand these systems building on the excellent management of the local Safe Water Committees and the community WASH education initiatives.
The goal for this year's walk is to raise $65,000 to double the safe water production and increase distribution to reach hundreds more families. During the Community Blues Fest, on the campus of Paoli Presbyterian Church, we will demonstrate the Water Mission treatment system. This demonstration will also show some of the hardship faced by families in Kenya and the effectiveness of the treatment system. Participating walkers will bring awareness of the global water crisis to our community and raise money to fund the projects. Together, we will transform more lives!
Please register and ask your family and friends to support our goal with a donation!
